A new start

Some of you may know that I’m currently in Colorado at the Eden Valley Institute of Wellness. If you told me six months ago that I would be here I would have given you one of my dumbstruck looks with a slow “okaaaayyyy”.

Yet here I am.

Why did I come? I want to really cleanse and be well and experience not only a physical renewal but also a spiritual renewal because lets face it the burnout is real and the tune up (tear down and rebuild is necessary) I’m inches away from being “that friend” you know the one… who is a legitimate walking talking dumpster fire.

After not too much convincing by my mom and dad (who just came back from their wellness retreat adventure in the Black Hills of South Dakota (they did a 10 day retreat and came back looking and feeling FANTASTIC!) I decided to take the plunge and make the investment (we will talk about investing in health vs. luxury goods at a later date).

As I go through this journey for the next two week’s I’ll be keeping you informed of my experience and sharing my thoughts on the activities planned for my journey to well being (body, mind and spirit).

Eden Valley Wellness Institute is located about 1.5 hours outside of Denver Colorado and will be my new home for the next 14 days. The accommodations are modest and comfortable and the staff is EXTREMELY welcoming and the entire program is Christian based. I’ll detail my schedule of activities soon but for now roughly speaking, there will be two workouts (hike and a gym session) per day along with regimented meals which include 48 hours of juice fasting for the two weeks I’m here. The grounds are huge and I’ll detail the preparation of my food as I receive it from the on premises gardens which are organic and extensive. (I’m already eyeing up the rainbow chard).

Just so you get a taste of what’s happening with me. I’m waking up at 4:45 a.m. (normal for me) to start my day. By 5:45 a.m. I’ll be taking my “lemon drink” and a series of vitamins and minerals. I think I’m supposed to do oil pulling… but I’m not sure (but I think its something Gwyneth Paltrow does so I feel ritzy), then take a probiotic and today and tomorrow (as I mentioned) I’m juice fasting.

The scaries : Okay there are a few things that I am legitimately afraid of while here. Namely, the hyperbaric chamber. I think I glimpsed it… and oh buddy… I’m not sure how I’m going to get in there much less endure aaaannnnnddd the hot and cold water treatments (which are supposed to be awesome for your lymphatic drainage and inflammation (my nemesis) but ummmm… enduring temperatures of 104 degree water and then 40 degree water isn’t my thing. What happened to moderation and temperance. Why so extreme my dude?

At any rate, my goal is not to cry out or scream no matter how much they “hurt” me and I promised myself that I will smile and graciously do everything they ask without verbal complaint. I have packed ALL my workout clothing and this will probably be the most athleisure I’ve ever worn in a consecutive period in my life so at the very least I’m sartorially ready…
